Little words with Floris Hovers

Do you remember a special gift you received when you were a child? When I was young I collected a complete circus of the French brand Solido with trucks, vans, caravans and animals that was no longer in production (seventies) and I always missed the circus tent itself. My parents made a circus tent from fabric with real uprights and lights, a circus ring all on a green base, together it was wonderful and I was very happy with it.

What’s the most beautiful holiday you had when you were a child? A lot… But I liked the holidays in France most. I still remember a very special. Once I went with my parents and brothers on holiday with horse and carriage. This was in a beautiful area of the Netherlands. What was your favorite toy? My circus. Were you good at school? I’ve never been a very good student, but good enough I think. However, I have excelled in drawing and making things. Until now, the nativity scene I ever made is still used in the classroom where 27 years ago I was at school.

Were you neat or messy? I am very neat and tidy then and still I am. Were you lively or thoughtful? I believe that I am somehow both (is that possible? Yes I think so). What did you use to draw? All that could even draw even a stick to draw in the sand. What did you want to become in the future? The ringmaster or road builder. What was your favorite item of clothing, the one you always wanted to wear? I did and I still prefer a corduroy pants and I liked wearing vests. I’ve never had so much with fashion.

Toys Hovers

Did you prefer cowboys or Indians? I’ve never played with both actually, so I do not really know and I have never thought about it. What was your recurring whim? Cars and vehicles in general and recreate the world around me in my own way. How did you first graze your knee? That should happen early in my life, but I can still remember this one. When I was cycling on my first green bike and with my wooden (dutch) shoes on a road that was just sprinkled with fresh gravel. What was the food you used to hate most? Sauerkraut and chicory. Now I find that delicious. I am happy that I learned all food and I eat almost everything.

What’s the first lie you told? I really cannot remember that. Do you remember a dirty word you used to say? I think this must have been shit or cunt I just have brothers above me. If you could go back in time when you were a child, what “modern” game would you like to have fun with? I almost never was interested in games, not as a child and still I do not. I’ve played a lot outside, nailed, built, and made carts, climbing and jumping. I also played a lot of music, singing, playing the violin, and I also still do that.

Toys Hovers

What’s the game you play (would like to play) with your son? I have four children, three girls (Katrijn, Ronja, Lieske) and a boy (Abel) and I would like to make music with them and with my son. I would like to build a lot of playful things. What movie or cartoon would you like to see (have seen) with your son? The old black and white cartoons from Mickey Mouse, they are fun, really good and the music is great in combination with what you see. Which book did you give him (would you like to give to him)? Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl.

Toys Hovers

Which item would you like to leave to your child? All the Archetoys I designed and especially models that are not in production. In your opinion, what’s missing today in the world of children? Imagination (space to interpret) this also applies to adults. Do you have a project for the little ones in mind or have you already carried out one for them? I’m busy in my head and in my workshop! Things must place gradually emerge and grow. First, all unnecessary has to ‘evaporate’. The best things are suddenly.
